Transformers: The Last Knight introduces a slew of new and/or iconic franchise characters into the movie mythos, and one of the biggest being Quintessa, the supposed Cybertonian Goddess of Life. Early on in the film, Quintessa captures Optimus Prime and transforms him into an evil alter-ego, Nemesis Prime, with a mission to lead her to Earth. As his “maker” Prime has no choice to obey.

The premise of who and what Quintessa is seems pretty straight forward throughout most of The Last Knight‘s story; however, the Transformers 5 post-credit scene throws a big twist about Quintessa’s character into the mix.

Read on to see what Transformers movie producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura revealed about that the big twist in Quintessa’s character – and the massive implications it could have for the franchise mythos, going forward.

As you can see above in Comicbook.com’sย interview with Lorenzo di Bonaventura, theย Transformersย producer teases another big twist in the Transformers origin story.ย

More: Transformers Post-Credits Scene Explained

When asked what significance the big reveal inย The Last Knight‘s post-credit scene will have on the nextย Transformersย movie, di Bonaventuraย had the following tease:

“You never know, that’s part of what the discovery is gonna be. But actually, if you look at the mythology, the mythology of The Quintessa is that she very well and was probably human. So when you go back in time and go through that 6 billion years of mythology, there’s certainly a current of thought within it that says she was a human character and perhaps was actually the first one who built the Transformers. So ironically, if that’s accurate, then humans built Transformers.”

While that sounds like it would be an interesting turn of events, it does create a possible contradiction:

If theย Transformers have been on Earth since the time of the Dinosaurs (i.e., long before homo sapiens), but the Transformers were actually created by a human (Quintessa), then how/where did humans exist for millions of years before they emerged as the dominate race of Earth?

It would be a tricky line to walk to retro-fit human evolution with an extraterrestrial origin story; Ridley Scott tried as much withย Prometheus, and the results were less than stellar.ย

As it stands, Transformers 6’sย story will have to address this lingering question – while spinoffs like the plannedย Transformersย in Ancient Rome spinoffย will only further confuseย the matter further.ย
