Tom Holland made his solo debut in Captain America: Civil War and the film also served as the hopping on point for Spider-Man: Homecoming director Jon Watts.

In an interview with ScreenCrush, Watts discussed how much involvement he actually had with Civil War, and how working with the Russos paved the way for Homecoming.
“Yeah โ but not massively. Basically, Tom Holland and I got hired on the same day. And the first thing I did was I got to read the script for Civil War and I talked with [Civil War directors] Joe and Anthony [Russo] for a really long time. And I gave them all of my own personal materials about “This is what Peter’s bedroom should look like, this is what his wardrobe should look like.” Just anything like that to make sure we were all on the same page so that my movie transitions seamlessly with theirs.”
It also explains why the transition from Civil War to Homecoming is so smooth, feeling like a natural extension of the character rather than a jarring bait and switch. Hopefully, the same discussions are also being had for Avengers: Infinity War, which will also include Holland’s Spider-Man.
Spider-Man: Homecoming currently has a 4.14 out of 5 on ComicBook.com’s anticipation rankings.
