20th Century Fox has released the first look at Julianne Moore as the villain Poppy from Kingsman: The Golden Circle. Take a look at the evil mastermind in the photo below, released via Empire.

“She’s America’s sweetheart gone wrong,” director Matthew Vaughn says of Poppy, who is a criminal mastermind who runs her organization from an Americana-heavy secret base called Poppyland, which includes a 50s-style diner.

“I thought it would be fun to see [Moore] play this kooky, sweet, Stepford Wives-style villain that, at the same time, is lethal and crazy and intelligent,” says Vaughn. “Julianne is a fascinating actress. She can play wholesome so well, but also pretty crazy and tough. She was in my head as I was writing.”

Coming up with the idea for Poppy and her scheme is the only reason that Vaughn, who directed Kingsman: The Secret Service, stuck around for the sequel.

“I was worried about the villain,” he says. “Spy films are only as good as their villains. What I loved about Valentine [the first film’s villain, played by Samuel L. Jackson] is that his plot made sense. I’ve come up with a whole new villain plot that I guarantee people will be debating.”

Kingsman: The Golden Circle currently has a 3.99 out of 5 ComicBook.com User Anticipation Rating. Let us know how much you’re looking forward to Kingsman: The Golden Circle by giving it your own personal ComicBook.com User Rating below.

In Kingsman: The Golden Circle, with their headquarters destroyed and the world held hostage, members of Kingsman find new allies when they discover a spy organization in the United States known as Statesman. In an adventure that tests their strength and wits, the elite secret agents from both sides of the pond band together to battle a ruthless enemy and save the day, something that’s becoming a bit of a habit for Eggsy.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle is inspired by the comic book series The Secret Service by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons. Directed by Matthew Vaughn, Kingsman: The Golden Circle stars Colin Firth, Julianne Moore, Taron Egerton, Mark Strong, Halle Berry, Elton John, Channing Tatum, and Jeff Bridges.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle opens in theaters on Sept. 22, 2017.
