“I was asked what I can say, and I can’t remember,” Munn shared with MTV at San Diego Comic Con when asked if she would be returning as Psylocke. “I’ll just repeat to you what was said to me in the text. It was: ‘be vague.’”

When pointed out by MTV that such scarcity usually implies an actor’s involvement, Munn replied, “That is a great assumption, but I’m being vague.”

Munn made her debut in 20th Century Fox‘s X-Men universe in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse, with the psi-powered mutant serving as Pestilence, one of ancient mutant Apocalypse’s (Oscar Isaac) four Horsemen. Speaking on her brief role in the finished film, Munn revealed that fans “only got to see a quarter” of her performance, adding that Simon Kinberg, writer and producer of X-Men: Apocalypse and writer and director of X-Men: Dark Phoenix, “said last year that I can go in to Fox whenever I get time and actually edit it for myself, which I will do! Because we worked on it so hard, me, and Nick Hoult’s character,” Munn said of her trimmed-down, big fight scene against Beast. “So I’m excited to do that.”

“I love the character so much,” Munn said. “I’d love to see more of her. I’d love to be able to delve into that more.” Psylocke, whose mutant power includes telekinesis and the ability to project a psychic blade, has been associated with or a member of the X-Men in the Marvel Comics since 1986. An amalgamation version of the character appeared in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand, portrayed by Meiling Melanรงon. That “Psylocke” was killed in battle alongside her Omega teammates, Arclight and Kid Omega.

At the end of X-Men: Apocalypse, having survived the destructive battle between Apocalypse and the young, newly christened X-Men, Psylocke escapes, meaning there’s certainly an opening for the character to return โ€” whether she’s on the side of good or evil. Maybe Psylocke could seek asylum in Magneto’s (Michael Fassbender) mutant paradise, Genosha, recently rumored to be included in Dark Phoenix.

X-Men: Apocalypse cast members returning for Dark Phoenix include James McAvoy (Professor Charles Xavier), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Nicholas Hoult (Hank McCoy/Beast), Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), Tye Sheridan (Scott Summers/Cyclops), Alexandra Shipp (Ororo Monroe/Storm), and Kodi Smit-McPhee (Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler). Whether or not we can add Olivia Munn’s Psylocke to the list remains to be seen.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix will adapt the iconic “Dark Phoenix Saga” storyline and will serve as a direct sequel to X-Men: Apocalypse, taking place in the 1990s. X-Men: Dark Phoenix opens November 2nd, 2018.
