So, how would you feel is J.J. Abrams took over the film?

Over on Twitter, a journalist from The Hollywood Reporter suggested Lucasfilm is looking at Abrams to replace Trevorrow. Borys Kit had the following teaser to share with his followers:

“Will Lucasfilm go for the tried and tested? Rian Johnson’s AND JJ Abrams’ names emerging as contenders to replace Colin Trevorrow.”

Of course, fans are interested to see a returning face step in for Trevorrow, but some are doubting if Abrams would return. In the past, the director told publications like Fortune Magazine he’s not looking to director other Star Wars films following The Force Awakens.

“It was a wonderful way to visit a place that meant so much to me and obviously so many. I knew that if it worked, it was the perfect time to step down – and if it didn’t, no one would want me to do it anyway,” Abrams explained.

However, things do look good for Rian Johnson. The director is still finishing up post-production on The Last Jedi, but a report by Deadline suggests Johnson is being eyed by Lucasfilm for Episode IX. The piece suggests that “nothing is done yet” but the prospect of Johnson directing Episode IX “is certainly in the air right now.”

Of course, it also helps that Johnson has signaled his interest in doing a second Star Wars film. The director took to Twitter back in July and revealed his longterm love for the franchise.

“I would do another SW movie in a heartbeat,” the director admitted. “I’ve had the time of my life.”
