After making a long-awaited return to the galaxy far, far away, fans were shocked to see Han Solo perish at the hands of his son in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
And yet death is but a minor obstacle in the Star Wars universe, with ghosts and prequels and spin-off movies leaving the door open for Harrison Ford to reappear in the future. The question is, would he even want to?

Ford addressed the possibility of his return in a profile from GQ, stating that his character is unequivocally dead after being stabbed by Kylo Ren.
“Um, I mean, I’m finished with Star Wars if Star Wars is finished with me,” said Ford.
Asked if Star Wars is finished with him, Ford replied, “I can’t imagine it. But it is science fiction.”
As if his answer might be leading the possibility of a return on the table, Ford added one last point.
“I’d rather not,” he said. “You know, at this point I’d rather do something else. Just because it’s more interesting to do something new.”
There are well-documented rumors that Ford has wanted Han Solo to die ever since Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. He was surprised when he was asked to return for The Force Awakens, with the first call coming from George Lucas himself.
“It was proposed that I might make another appearance as Han Solo,” Ford said. “And I think it was mentioned, even in the first call, that he would not survive. That’s something I’d been arguing for for some period of time, so I said okay.”
Wondering if it was a necessity for Ford to be involved in the new film, the actor said, “Not necessarily. But it was, you know, an interesting development of the character.”
His next few projects involve returning to some of the roles that made him a Hollywood icon. Ford will next reprise his role as Rick Deckard in Blade Runner 2049. Disney and Lucasfilm also announced their intention to make another Indiana Jones movie which could start filming later next year.
For an actor who’s interested in doing something new, Ford doesn’t seem to mind relishing in the past.
Blade Runner 2049 hits theaters October 6th.
