Pre-production on Shazam! has been in full swing for a few weeks now, and now we might know what the film’s working title will be.
A new report from Omega Underground revealed that Shazam! will be operating under the working title of ‘Franklin.’

The title of ‘Franklin’ is a pretty unique choice for Shazam!. Some have already taken the moniker to be a reference to Benjamin Franklin and his lightning-based experiments. With one of Billy Batson/Shazam’s powers being lightning manipulation, it’s a pretty perfect code name for the film to use.
For the uninitiated, working titles give films a chance to go about various elements of production – such as casting extras and filming on locations – without drawing too much attention to themselves. Working titles for superhero films have become a fun piece of trivia amongst fans, with some recent standouts including Avengers: Infinity War‘s ‘Mary Lou’, Spider-Man: Homecoming‘s ‘Summer of George’, and Justice League‘s ‘Caveman’.
A lot of Shazam! still remains a mystery, starting with who will play the title role. Rumored names for the role of Billy Batson‘s superpowered older self have included John Cena, Galavant‘s Joshua Sasse, and Derek Theler. The film’s pre-production has been pretty noteworthy though, with director David F. Sandberg posting quite a few amusing updates as he prepares for cameras to roll. Maybe we’ll find out more about ‘Franklin’ – I mean Shazam! – very soon.
Shazam! was originally slated for an April 5, 2019 release date. No additional update about release date has been provided.
