The iZombie Cast Is Creating Tributes to Kick-Ass Women, And They're Awesome

The cast of iZombie is producing a series of ultra-short (Vine-length or so) videos honoring their favorite "bad-ass women" from the screen, and they're an absolute delight.

Here's a thing, though: That's hardly surprising from this bunch.

At Comic-Con International: San Diego in 2014, a number of reporters including myself got to meet with the cast of The CW's iZombie before most of us had even seen any footage from the series.

Based on Chris Roberson and Mike Allred's Vertigo series, iZombie came to TV from Veronica Mars co-creators Rob Thomas and Diane Ruggiero-Wright. It was expected to debut its pilot at Comic-Con that year, but a pair of characters had to be recast and they ended up showing only selected clips...in a panel that most of us in the press room couldn't make it to.

As a result, there was a general sense that the show might be in trouble, fueled in part by the pilot reshoots and not helped by a fan base questioning why the show was even using the iZombie name when so many elements of the comic had been changed for the screen.

Then, as you'd expect we might at a press event, we met the cast.

Charming, funny, engaged and enthusiastic about the project, every member of the iZombie cast impressed me, and I heard the same thing from a number of other reporters present. At the time, I remember thinking they had something special if the show was half as much fun as just seeing these people riff off one another.

Of course, it was.

Fast forward a year and the show is about to debut its second season. The cast?

As mentioned above, they're putting together this series of Vine videos paying tribute to kick-ass female protagonists, from Wonder Woman to Kill Bill. They're having fun doing it, and the videos themselves are priceless.

Not all of them have been released yet, but you can see the ones that have below.

"You guys have been watching our iZombie badass countdown, where we're paying homage to our favorite onscreen women and making a tribute each day," explained Rahul Kohli in a new tweet encouraging fans to do the same using the #iZombieBadassCountdown hashtag on social media.

iZombie is back on The CW this Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET/PT following the season premiere of The Flash.
