Why Did The Kansas State Marching Band Apologize For Their Star Trek-Themed Halftime Show?

On Saturday, the Kansas State marching band took a lot of heat for their Star Trek-themed halftime show.

During the performance, the band positioned themselves to depict the Kansas Jayhawk mascot battling the USS Enterprise. Some people took umbrage with it when the Federation Starship headed toward the Jayhawk's open beak, which those people interpreted as a lewd act.

Shouldn't the bigger issue be the use of the Kansas mascot? Yes, they are Kansas State's rival, but they were playing the South Dakota Coyotes. Shouldn't they have the Starship Enterprise attacking a coyote?

Which brings up another issue: USS Enterprise seeks out new life forms, so wouldn't a giant Jayhawk constitute a new life form? They would study it first and foremost, not attack it.

Either way, Kansas State issued an apology after the game, which you can read below.

Star Trek Beyond will arrive in theaters July 8, 2016.
