So, be warned! Spoilers rest below.
If you are a reader of Hajime Isayama’s manga, then you are already well-aware of the secret Attack on Titan is about to expose. However, for anime-only fans, the latest episode of Attack on Titan was a traumatic one. In the episode titled “Southwestward,” fans watched as a group of soldiers rushed to the town of Ragako with Connie Springer in tow. The boy hailed from the small village, and he wished to warn his homestead that Wall Rose had been infiltrated by Titans. But, when the boy got there, his village had been totally destroyed.
Oddly enough, there was no bodies or blood to signal the deaths of any village peoples. Connie took the absence as a good sign, but fans pieced together that all wasn’t well soon enough. When the boy approached his childhood home, Connie saw a familiar-looking Titan sprawled over the property. The creature had the exact same eyes as Connie, and it even attempted to welcome Connie home. The soldier already seemed to know what had happened in his village by this point, and the Attack on Titan manga confirms his suspicions.
Anime fans met the terrifying Beast Titan in the premiere episode of season two, and the creature is responsible for Connie’s grief. The strange monster is able to turn human Eldians into Titans without the use of any serums. All the Beast Titan has to do is used a sonic weapon to turn hoards of humans into mindless Titans. If you haven’t guessed yet, Wall Rose was not infiltrated by Titans because of a breach; Rather, the Beast Titan turned humans who had lived within the area into Titans whom he could then control.
As for Connie, the boy saw himself in the Titan atop his childhood home because the creature is family. The Titan was created from Connie’s mother, and Ymir later confirms the horrible act took place in the manga. Fans can expect to see that scene play out in the anime soon. In the manga, the resident of Wall Rose who were turned into Titans were all executed by the Military as there is no way to reverse the shift if the Beast Titan forced it upon them.
