Death Note
Most anime fans will be familiar with Death Note’s biggest plot twist thanks to the show’s iconic status. The supernatural title rose to fame back in 2006, and fans watched as model student Light Yagami turned into a serial killer with a god complex after he got the power to kill anyone at will. Puella Magi Madoka Magica
When Madoka Magic debuted back in 2011, fans wondered if the magical girl title would be just another Sailor Moon wannabe. However, those thoughts dissipated after the anime’s third episode debuted. Fans watched as one of the cute protagonists named Mami is shown valiantly fighting a horde of enemies. The adorable girl seems to be doing well, but that all changes when the witch Charlotte manages to decapitate Mami with her razor-sharp teeth. The unexpectedly gory death left fans nauseous, and Madoka could only watch as her friend’s corpse was eaten.

Attack on Titan
Attack on Titan has plenty of plot twists to keep fans occupied, but the show’s most recent stunner stands far above the rest. The anime finally debuted its second season this year, leaving fans eager to learn more about the Colossal and Armored Titans. Just a few episodes into the new season, fans finally learned who the special Titans were, and the revelation sent anime-only fans into a tailspin. After all, Reiner did out himself and Bertholt out as the Titans in a rather anti-climatic speech. The note might have even gone unnoticed if it weren’t for Mikasa trying to kill the boys.

Mirari Nikki
Mirai Nikki is a fan-favorite anime thanks to its time traveling turns, but no plot twist could be more intense than the one concerning Yuno Gasai. The anime follows the girl and a boy named Yukiteru Amano as the pair try to win a massive survival game. However, fans are left surprised when they learn that Yuno has already won the game. The girl really comes from a different time where she killed Yukiteru to win the tournament. However, Yuno was so obsessed with the boy that she kept visiting different timelines to relive Yukiteru’s final days together. But, to do that, Yuno was forced to kill whichever Yuno was native to the timeline she enters. So, as you might expect, a lot of blood is shed.

School Days
On the outside, School Days may look like an innocent shojo series, but the title is anything but. The anime tells the story of Makoto, a bratty high school student who falls in love with a classmate named Kotonoha. However, the boy has an admirer named Sekai who tries to help Makoto get with her friend Kotonoha. The unhealthy love triangle moves along at a rapid pace, giving fans uncomfortable whiplash – but no one could have seen the ending coming. The anime ends when Sekai stabs Makoto to death when he begins flirting around. Kotonoha then finds the body and asks Sekai to meet her. When the girls meet up, Kotonoha reveals she brought Makoto’s decapitated head in her bag before she slaughters Sekai. The girl even cuts her friend’s stomach open to check if she is pregnant, and then Kotonoha goes off on a yacht with Makoto’s head cuddled in her arms.
