If any Dragon Ball fans are looking for a good reason to cry, they can just check out the latest episode of Dragon Ball Super. The anime had an emotional comeback this past weekend with its Roshi-centric story, and fans are still weeping over the character’s touching nod to Dragon Ball.
Thanks to Reddit user /deonist, fans can check out the nostalgic reference in one place. Dragon Ball Super‘s episode follows Roshi as the martial artist has a spotlight thrust over him in the Tournament of Power. The fighter comes under attack by Universe 4, and Roshi’s encounter with Ganos leaves him on the ropes.
When the mentor’s opponent tells Roshi to accept his limits, fans watched as the fighter gathered new strength from his former students. Roshi looks back on how Goku and Krillin taught him how to never let one’s limits stop them, and fans got to see a beautiful flashback of the trio’s time spent together in Dragon Ball.
More determined than ever before, Roshi faces Ganos once more and prepares to unleash one mighty Kamehameha. The martial artist even uttered a short line to motivate himself, and it is Roshi’s dialogue that has got fans tearing up.
After all, the line is one which Roshi coined years ago in Dragon Ball.
The fighter can be heard saying, “Move well! Learn well! Play well, eat well, and rest well! The Kame Style is with you!” The phrase was first used by Roshi more than a decade ago when the Turtle Hermit was watching over Goku and Krillin train – well, mostly. Roshi was lounging in a hammock when he said the line for the first time.
Dragon Ball Super may act as an introductory point for brand-new fans, but the anime also takes care of long-time fans. Roshi isn’t the only character whose dropped classic Dragon Ball easter eggs in the series. Back in episode 85, the anime had a touching nod to Grandpa Gohan, so fans are now on alert for anything that looks remotely like a throwback reference.
