Luke has been a published author since the age of ten, when a poem he wrote was selected for an anthology of children’s literature, and a professional entertainment writer and critic since 1999. Born in the U.S., he grew up overseas and attended film school at the University of Southern California. He is a veteran of many publications, from the LA Weekly and L.A. Times to Nerdist, E! Online, and Voice Media, where he ran the pop-culture site Topless Robot for almost three years. Working for Nikki Finke at Deadline, he was one of the first at a major outlet to cover Comic-Con panel-by-panel, with turnarounds fast enough for a breaking newsroom.
Luke is a member of the LA Film Critics Association and the Critics Choice Association, and his handle on most social media sites is @lytrules, including Substack.
Luke has won two LA Press Club awards: one for film criticism, and another for headline-writing. He has been runner-up in several other categories for blogging, film criticism, and fast food reviews. In addition, he has heard the phrases “I am your father” and “Use the Force” almost every other day of his life.
