On Sunday, Comicbook.com reported on Michael Bay's plan to turn the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles into aliens. To say the least, most Turtle fans were none to happy about the idea. Now, the whole Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle alien controversy has spiraled into one of the biggest stories on the Internet with the likes of TMZ and MSNBC weighing in with their thoughts. The outrage reached such a fever pitch that Michael Bay himself was left with no choice but to give a response. On his official forum at ShootForTheEdit.com, Michael Bay posted, "Fans need to take a breath, and chill. They have not read the script. Our team is working closely with one of the original creators of Ninja Turtles to help expand and give a more complex back story. Relax, we are including everything that made you become fans in the first place. We are just building a richer world." Of course, Bay's comments seem to have done little to stay the angry tide of Turtle enthusiasts. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have a very strong fan base, as demonstrated by 836 people turning up dressed as Ninja Turtles to set a new world record at the opening of a new Mall Of America ride. For many, the idea of turning the Turtles into aliens undermines the entire concept around the Turtles and makes the movie just another alien invasion movie.  The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie is scheduled to be released on December 25, 2013.
