Following a trail of breadcrumbs, one interviewer has arrived at the interesting conclusion that Apocalypse might be the villain pulling the strings in Bryan Singer's forthcoming sequel X-Men: Days of Future Past, after Singer first refused to deny it and later seemed to praise the reporter's deductive reasoning for arriving at the idea. Bleeding Cool spoke with Singer recently in promotion of his new film Jack the Giant Slayer, and came away with the impression that Apocalypse might be not only a player in the film, but also the motion-capture character hinted at in previous Singer interviews. Whether that means Peter Dinklage could be playing the ancient mutant force of nature is unclear, although certainly his voice and face could be a great basis for Apocalypse in the way that Mark Ruffalo's were for the Hulk. From the report, here are the series of Singer quotes that led BC's Brendon Connelly to think he's made a connection others missed:

The movie is about destiny. What is your fate? What were you supposed to do, what should you have done when you were younger? What didn't you do that would have made for a better future? And what if you could go back and change that. I think I've got the time travel – I don't really want to call it time travel, but for want of a better word, time travel figured out. I pitched it to James Cameron and he signed off on it.

Connelly linked that to the version of Apocalypse we see these days, cloned and being taught at the Jean Grey School, and very much focused on similar storytelling themes. Meanwhile, when he asked Singer directly about Apocalypse, the director gave the kind of no-comment that one has to know is bound to stir speculation: "I can't tell you." Pressed for how Singer might handle Apocalypse, and specifically the idea that he might require performance capture technology, Singer reportedly told the interviewer, "This is how it gets started, when somebody starts piecing the little bits together…".
