Add legendary comics writer and editor Stan Lee to the list of celebrities who are standing up for Ben Affleck as Batman. Earlier today, Affleck got a virtual pat on the back from Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara, and in the weeks since it was announced he would be playing the Dark Knight, he's received support from most celebrities asked to comment on his casting, including former Batmen Michael Keaton and Val Kilmer as well as would-be Batman Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Audiences, of course, remain split. While the petition to remove him from the role has lost some steam, it did so after reaching something like 75,000 signatures. Luckily for Affleck, Miley Cyrus did something stupid and the entertainment press moved on. But back to Lee, who thinks Affleck is a strong choice for the role: "I'm one of the few people who think it's a good idea," Classicalite quotes Lee from the Wall Street Journal's Speakeasy blog. "Ben Affleck is a good actor, and a good director, and I think he'll surprise a lot of people." This isn't the first time Lee has spoken up in favor of Batfleck, either; last month, he said that not only did he expect the actor to do a fine job, but doubled down, saying that the failure of Daredevil (a film based on a character Lee co-created) wasn't Affleck's fault.
