Putting to rest months of speculation, Marvel's The Amazing Spider-Man will return with a new #1 in April. On the cover of the newest issue of Marvel Previews (the March-April 2014 issue), it's teased that Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos will return to the title that they left when it ended, with Slott taking a full-time gig on its replacement title, Superior Spider-Man. Comic Book Movie, who obtained the scanned image, claim that it will be released in March, although that's not made clear here. Perhaps they've seen the inside of the Marvel Previews? Until then, we'll just say "2014." Given the fact that the Marvel solicitations have already hit for March, the most likely scenario seems like an April release for The Amazing Spider-Man #1. The April 2014 solicitations should be released in the next week or so.

Marvel Comics haven't yet commented on the image's release. It certainly appears as though that's the classic Peter Parker Spider-Man--that's how Peter has always been drawn by Ramos in the past, and the costume is the pre-Superior version. The big grin is certainly uncharacteristic of Otto Octavius, who's been living inside Peter's head for the last year or so. The launch of an ongoing Peter Parker series in April would be no surprise; The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be released in May 2014, and conventional wisdom is that major changes to the heart of big characters have to be undone in time for that character's next movie to hit theaters. When Steve Rogers died and was briefly replaced by Bucky Barnes, his return as Captain America was timed to coincide with the release of Captain America: The First Avenger to theaters. NOTE: As pointed out in the comments, it wasn't Steve Rogers's return from the dead that coincided with the release of Captain America: The First Avenger. He came back from the dead in a 2009-2010 miniseries and the movie came out in July 22, 2011...shortly after the June 2011 "death" of Bucky Barnes during Fear Itself that motivated Rogers to become Captain America again. Rogers a new Captain America #1 in July 2011.
