Samuel L. Jackson will return to reprise his role as Nick Fury in the season finale of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the actor told Vulture today.Asked whether his character might make another cameo in spite of a major change to his status quo in last weekend’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Jackson admitted that he had filmed one…but not what he did.”I did! Last week! I just shot the end-of-the-season show.” Asked for more information, he told the interviewer, “You’re trying to get me fired and killed! I don’t talk about Marvel’s business. None of us do.”Jackson, who claims the sole determining factor in whether he appears on S.H.I.E.L.D. is whether Kevin Feige asks him to do so, said of his character’s decision to go underground after the fall of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the movie that “It ties into the TV show….They wanted to tie that up.”It’s also likely Marvel wanted to tie up the two key mysteries driving the show’s first season — the nature of Coulson’s resurrection and the story of Skye’s origin — both of which had at least some information being kept secret by Fury personally.Of course, it’s unlikely that Fury will come out of hiding on the TV series, especially so soon after having spent a whole movie trying to take himself off the grid. It’s possible that whatever we see may be a recording or some other kind of fail-safe message to Coulson and crew to be delivered in the event that Fury disappears or is killed.
