Free Comic Book Day is this Saturday, May 3, and a new video has reading activist and actor LeVar Burton talking up the event.
For 30 years, Burton has been encouraging kids to read as the host of the PBS television series Reading Rainbow. As he explains in the video, Burton was an “army brat” who read comics and traded them with other children on the bases he lived on. This gave the kids something to do and a way to keep in touch with the popular culture stateside.
