DC Entertainment announced last week that they’d be adding Bill Finger, the writer who helped create Batman, to the “Created by” credits alongside Bob Kane, who has been credited for decades, on upcoming media featuring the character. The oversight was due to decades-old contracts, and has been fought voraciously for the last few years by Finger’s family and others who took up the cause.

In honor of Batman Day, artist (and webcomic creator) Paul Roman Martinez posted an image that shows exactly why it is so important that Finger get credit. While Bob Kane came up with a general idea of Batman, comic book historians acknowledge that Finger put all the fine touches on it, from the basic look to concepts like the Batmobile, Robin, and the co-creation of The Joker.
