So, be warned! Spoilers lie ahead!

If you are not familiar with Attack On Titan, then you should know the popular anime is renowned for its intense action and gritty storylines. The anime follows a boy named Eren Yeager in an alternate world overrun by massive creatures known as Titans. These mindless beasts have all but wiped out humanity, and mankind is left to cower in fear behind massive walls. When their sanctum is infiltrated by a slew of Titans, Eren and his friends Armin and Mikasa join the military to help eradicate the blood-thirty monsters. But, as they grow older, they learn that the beasts are not what they appear as long-held government conspiracies make themselves known.

Attack On Titan Season 2 will debut in April 2017.

Wall Rose

During the teaser, the video proclaims that Wall Rose has somehow been breached by Titans. For anime fans, the announcement may come as a surprise, but manga readers will know where the story is leading. The infiltration of Wall Rose is the event that kicks off the ‘Clash of the Titans’ arc in the original manga. The gritty storyline follows the 104th Training Corps as they try to plug the breach and eventually discover that there are dangerous traitors within their ranks.

The Secret Of The Walls

An ominous message was given to fans towards the latter-half of the Season 2 trailer which has them feeling a little concerned. The teaser promised there were secrets to be learned about the walls which protect humanity, and they will not be easy for most to digest. In the manga, readers have already learned why the walls are such an important relic amongst mankind. Not only do they protect them from Titans, but the walls were also created from Titans themselves. Their skeletons were used to ward off their peers, and the Survey Corps even learns that a slew of Titans are even kept within the walls. But, for now, the reason behind their captivity has been kept a secret.

Utgard Castle

In the trailer, manga fans were no doubt delighted to see a familiar landmark in the teaser. While many fans were focused on watching a new Titan take on its peers, others were preoccupied with the setting. The bloody scene took place in an area called Utgard Castle, an abandoned location within Wall Rose. Fans could see the castle’s imposing towers as the impish Titan ripped into its mindless comrades, and the setting only solidifies the anime’s connection to the ‘Clash of the Titans’ arc. And, as manga readers will already know, Castle Utgard is where Ymir finally reveals to her friends that she has been a Titan Shifter like Eren Yeager all along.

Titans Protecting Humanity

The teaser makes a rather bold statement when it says that Titans have been protecting humanity from other Titans. Of course, fans already knew there was at least one Titan doing that sort of thing; Eren steadfastly used his Titan Shifting gifts to protect mankind, but who else is acting alongside him. For now, anime fans will have to wait and see whether the counterintuitive teaser hints that Attack On Titan‘s second season will be more involved with the politics of Paradis.

Connie Returns Home; Manga Connections

As expected, the trailer for Attack On Titan‘s second season looks like it was lifted straight from the manga. The new episodes seem like they will be as canon-compliant as those in the first season. Several scenes were sourced directly from manga panels, but one is already causing chatter amongst fans. Viewers watched as Connie walked up to a house that was crushed underneath the weight of a dead Titan. Manga readers will recognize the scene from chapter 38, “Utgard Castle.” The Survey Corps member had wanted to return to his home in Wall Rose only to find it destroyed by a mindless Titan, and all the fan-favorite character could do was grieve.

The Beast Titan

You definitely have not seen any Titan like the Beast Titan before. The brand-new creature makes his debut in the newly released trailer, and it’s a truly terrifying sight. The Beast Titan is a towering foe who is covered in dark fur and has unsettling eyes. In the teaser, fans watch as the crazed Titan bends down to smirk at Mike Zacharias after the scout gets snatched by a wide-eyed Titan. Manga readers will know the Beast Titan becomes an increasingly important villain in the overall story, and he even has some disconcerting connections with Eren to boot.

Historia Reiss & Ymir

While fans only see the two girls for a second, the shot of Historia Reiss and Ymir was enough to make manga readers blanche. The teaser trailer hinted that a mysterious girl had the right to know about the Titans’ history, and that character was none other than Historia. The young girl has kept her name hidden up until now, but fans were soon discover her true royal status. Historia is an illegitimate daughter of Paradis’ royal family, and her birth status will becoming increasingly important as the anime moves forward. As for Ymir, the chic character looks perfectly bored in the teaser, but readers know the girl is just moments away from revealing her true self. By the time Season 2 ends, audiences will know all about Ymir’s hidden past and her true status as a Titan.

Armored Titan Takes Down Eren Yeager

At the very end of the Attack On Titan‘s teaser trailer, fans were no doubt rooting for Eren to absolutely wail on the Armored Titan when the two went head-to-head. But, sadly, no such thing happened. The latter got the upper-hand over Eren and sent the shifted boy flying through the forest with a single punch. While the scene might look cool, the image does give fans a better understanding of the show’s timeline. In the ‘Clash of the Titans’ arc, Eren and the Armored Titan fight after the former discovers who his enemy truly is. In a shocking twist, the hero learns that his comrades Reiner and Bertolt are actually the Armored and Colossus Titans respectively, and the reveal sends Eren into an understandable rage.
