Ash vs. Evil Dead returned on Starz this week, with a gory, hilarious, terrifying, and action-packed episode that proved they lost nothing in the transition from season 1 to season 2. As both star and executive producer, Bruce Campbell’s work toward making Ash vs. Evil Dead the very best of Ash’s stories is easy to see on the screen, as his love for the character is easy to hear in conversation. Talking with Comicbook.com about the second season of the show, Campbell said there’s no other hero like Ash, and none he’d rather play.

“I’m delighted with Ash. He’s officially the best character that I’ve ever played, and it’s one that I’m going to investigate and explore until they tell me I can’t do it anymore,” Campbell told us. “I find Ash, with all of his flaws, all his foibles, all his mistakes, so wonderfully human that it’s hard for me to relate to super hero movies.”
The actor gave credit to Spider-Man, directed by his friend and fellow exectuive producer Sam Raimi (and a couple of them featuring cameos by Campbell), saying he’s ultimately “just a kid from Queens.” Characters with alien or godly powers, though, “gets old,” he said, calling it “hard for [him] to care.”
As for Ash’s ongoing adventures, Campbell says he has quite a bit left in him, even in this particular iteration.
“I’ll take five! I’ll take five seasons of this. Give the fans a big boost of the material; they’ll have 25 fresh hours of the show after this, after we’re done [with five seasons], and that’s like making 12 movies!” Campbell said, sounding sure they’d be able to do the show for that long. He proclaimed TV a “better deal for fans,” and when you do the math it’s hard to disagree.
Ash vs. Evil Dead season one is available now on the Starz app, on demand, on Amazon Prime, on Blu-ray, and on DVD. Season two kicked off on Starz this weekend, with 10 all-new episodes starring Campbell, Lucy Lawless, Ray Santiago, and Dana DeLorenzo as they try to fight back the Evil once more.
