Caliber Comics

After 12 years of inactivity, Caliber Comics is returning. Founded by Gary Reed, Caliber was a major independent comics publisher in the 1990s. It suspended publishing in 2001 after 12 years.Caliber Comics was a publisher that focused on creator owned properties and gave many creators their first opportunity to see their work published. Caliber was instrumental in launching the careers of Michael Allred, Guy Davis, Vince Locke, Ed Brubaker, Brian Bendis, Mike Perkins, David Mack, Dean Haspiel, Mike Carey, Jim Calafiore, Georges Jeanty, Patrick Zircher, and others.Caliber Comics will be part of Caliber Entertainment, LLC. Caliber Entertainment was formed by Gary Reed and his partner, Eric Reichert, who is President of Eagle One Media.”Caliber will continue with primarily creator owned titles,” said Reed, “and we have a number of releases lined up. ย Our focus will be graphic novels and/or collections of previously released material although we will have some original content as well.”The company will both produce physical editions and make its content available digitally.”As far as new monthly comics go, that is a massive undertaking that we’re not going to tackle immediately. ย We will likely look to partner up with an established company on the comic ‘floppies’ because in today’s market, you can’t just make it unless you have enough awareness in the comics market,” Reed said. “We’ll be approaching things in a lot of different ways and hope to be announcing some exciting details soon.”Transfuzion Publishing, a company Reed co-founded with Rafael Neives in 2007, will cease operations and be folded into Caliber Comics. Transfuzion has published about 70 graphic novels in the past few years, and will continue to publish as an imprint of Caliber Comics.Reichert added, “With almost 25 years of publishing history, Caliber Comics has built up a large library of works that we are actively pursuing to develop along all global media platforms including print, digital,ย film, television, web, and even consumer products. With our existing creator relationships and incoming stable of future creator/artists the ‘Caliber’ brand offers some tremendous multi-media opportunities. However, first and foremost Caliber will do what it has done best, publishing great independent comics and graphic novels, and becoming a premier publishing house for these types of works.”Caliber will begin releasing new comics and converting its current library to digital in the next few months. A more detailed publishing schedule will be announced soon.
