Producer Adi Shankar is known for getting cult-hit movies up on the big screen, such as Dredd and Lone Survivor. However, Shankar has arguably made his name by launching his “Bootleg Universe,” online shorts based on popular properties like Marvel’s Punisher, the Power Rangers, or the further adventures of Judge Dredd. Recently it came to light that Shankar is working on animated series with Adventure Time producer Fred Siebert – a series based on the classic Nintendo game, Castlevania.

SYNOPSIS: Inspired by the classic video game series, Castlevania is a dark medieval fantasy following the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself. The animated series is from Frederator Studios, a Wow! Some big takeaways from Shankar’s announcement are:
- Castlevania is airing on Netflix.
- Season 1 will air in 2017; Season 2 is already confirmed for 2018.
- Comic book icon Warren Ellis wrote it.
- The Adventure Time connection is confirmed with the name drops of producers Fred Seibert and Kevin Kolde.
- Shankar guarantees the show will end the dreaded video game adaptation curse.
While it’s still flying somewhat under the radar for now, Castlevania will soon capture fans attention.
