Ahead of Sony’s presentation at E3 2016, fans had been speculating whether the company would be bringing back an old friend from the past. Having debuted almost a decade ago, Crash Bandicoot was an exclusive mascot for the original Playstation console, and fans still fondly remember the destructive marsupial. And, in an announcement at E3, Sony has now confirmed that Crash Bandicoot will be coming back to consoles.

Crash Bandicoot will return to Playstation later this year in the brand’s successful Skylanders franchise with Skyalanders Imaginators. Later, Crash Bandicoot will then have its first three games remastered to play on Sony’s PS4.
With a Skylanders‘ cameo confirmed, Crash Bandicoot will be following in the steps of another nostalgic mascot as the franchise first debuted in 2011 featuring Spyro (Spyro the Dragon) as a character.
As for the Crash Bandicoot remasters, there is no official word from Playstation on when the titles will be available for purchase, but Activision is teasing that the games may hit in 2017. With news of the remasters sitting well with fans, gamers are finding Sony’s announcement promising as they hope the company might create new titles for the franchise in the future. First created by Naughty Dog, a developer who’s now best known for its Uncharted series and The Last of Us, Crash Bandicoot now stands as one of the most iconic video game characters of all-time.
For now, what fans do know is that Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, and Crash Bandicoot: Warped will be HD and digitally remastered for release on the PS4 around 2017. Before then, however, Crash Bandicoot will star in Playstation’s Skylanders Imaginators which is schedule to hit shelves October 16, 2016. While the announcement may not completely satisfy fans who were hoping for a brand-new Crash Bandicoot title, the news is a step forward for both new and old gamers who’re looking to replay through an exciting period of video game history.
