Typically the realms of magic and science don’t necessarily get along so well, as the lack of explanation for the former often irritates and challenges the beliefs of the latter.
Those two worlds and their conflict with each other are at the heart of a new series from Dark Horse titled Explore The Ether. The book is being written and drawn by the talented team of Matt Kindt (Dept. H) and David Rubin (The Rise of Aurora West). The book centers around an interdimensional explorer from Earth named Boone Dias. Dias is inherently a student of science, and as such he has a hard time accepting and understanding the existence of magic. It’s what drives him to explore The Ether, a supernatural realm that is full of wonder and magic.

While he strives to come to his own conclusions about the root and purpose of magic, he also helps the citizens of The Ether with their own crimes and issues, using his scientific expertise to solve crimes.
The story in many ways mirrors Kindt’s own feelings about the supernatural.
“Ether came from my love-hate relationship with the supernatural. It’s not a genre I’m particularly attracted to as a creator, and I really wanted to figure out why. So in a lot of ways, the main character in Ether is a surrogate for the part of me that wants to explore the supernatural but also wants everything to be explained โ which can literally ruin the magic of a supernatural story.”
Explore The Ether is a four issue mini-series, and issue one is set to hit comic stores on November 16th.
