With 26 days left, Steamforged Games has already greatly surpassed their initial funding goal for their upcoming Dark Souls – The Board Game.

In fact, the game was completely funded within minutes of its opening bell. Some of that is because of the love held for the license, and some is partly due to the developers work on their other hit property Guildball. Though there is something to be said for having some solid gameplay to show at launch. The game already looks quite fun and is loaded with the immense challenge that the original has hooked fans with over the course of three games (four if you count Demon Souls).
The boss encounters are unique every time, due to the changing character A.I. deck, but the boss still has a pattern for you to exploit if a player is able to pick up on it. The bosses also have a different weak spot depending on what ability card they are using, so if you can coordinate with your other players you can really dish out some damage. It’s a nice balance they’ve struck, but don’t misunderstand, you’re still going to die. A lot.
The game is well into its stretch goals, and will probably hit the remaining two they have listed later today. With all the success, hopefully, they don’t let feature-creep dilute the end product. You can check out the game on Kickstarter here.
