Now that he’s a bonafide star of super hero films, Stefan Kapicic is looking to make his mark on TV next. The actor – who starred as Colossus in Deadpool – has just officially been added to the cast of the new Starz series, Counterpart.

Kapicic joins the ranks of a couple of other comic book movie veterans in the new series. JK Simmons (Spider-Man, Justice League) stars in the series, alongside Olivia Williams (X-Men: The Last Stand, The Sixth Sense).

Described as an espionage thriller with a metaphysical twist, Counterpart is the story of Howard Silk (Simmons), a lowly cog in a bureaucratic agency, who discovers that the agency he works for is really guarding a crossing into a parallel dimension. Through Howard and his “Counterpart” on the other side, the show will navigate themes of identity, what ifs, and lost love. Starz ordered two 10 episode seasons in 2015.

Kapicic may still be living the dream in the world of the X-Men, but he’s incredibly excited for this new opportunity. Before heading to Germany to film some of the series, the actor took some time to chat with ComicBook about his new role.

My character is Leber. That’s his name and he’s a German of heritage. He’s like an ex special force commando type of a guy. Really dangerous, very mysterious. He’s dangerous, but to say for the right cause. He is not a bad guy in general. He’s just there to protect and he’s a guy that you can see … well people will see my character with a cane, because due to an injury in the line of duty. He got shot in the knee, but even like he has this disability and that he has got a cane with himself like always. He is really capable to use that cane in many ways.

It’s such a beautiful role to play. Like I said, being a part of this team is really a great thing for me and especially after Deadpool and after all these beautiful projects like this. I think Counterpart is something that I really needed, in one way, to upgrade myself, to learn from all these people. Plus as I’ve mentioned, the way they’ve written this show is so precise, so full, as I said, it’s full of twists, of action. It’s so cleverly done.

I’m a huge fan of TV shows in general, but I think that even if I wasn’t in this show that it would definitely be one of my favorite shows in the future. The whole team would … I don’t know if I could say that, Amy Burke, and she is like the show runner and Justin Marks is the creator and a writer. Everybody there help us actors. For all the questions, they’re always there, the whole team, the writers, and we have beautiful directors, so everything is so amazing.

He went on to reveal why he was so excited for the new series, and a lot of it had to do with the incredible cast he’s now a part of.

The thing that I can tell you is that the cast of this show is absolutely brilliant. I was talking with J. K. Simmons and we all know what that man is capable of doing as an actor, because that’s one incredible acting force that I have a privilege to work with, to watch him acting and to learn so many things from him. With him you have Olivia Williams who … I think you know her from like many great projects and I’m really proud to say she was Moira MacTaggart in the X-men [The Last Stand], which is like some sort of like X-men colleague in one way.

We have so many amazing American, German, and British actors in the TV show. As I said, I’m a reoccurring role in this show and I’m really proud to be a part of such an amazing cast.

The show has wrapped filming in LA, but everyone is soon heading to Germany to film at a new location. Kapicic was born in Germany, so he’s excited to get to work back home for once.

We are still filming it and we’re almost done with like L.A. shooting right now, so we are done with this L.A. locations. The crew and creators, part of the show is moving to Berlin. There’s gonna be like two or three months shooting in Berlin, which is the other place that we’ve got in this show. We’re gonna do the rest of the show in such a legendary city.

Yeah. That’s the funny thing, I was born in Germany. I was born in Cologne and this is my first time … I’ve been in Germany many times, but I’ve never worked in Germany. This is going to be really beautiful for me to come back where I was born and to work there. That’s one more of the things that I’m really excited for.
