Diplo Changes His Twitter Avatar and Display Name In Honor of Josie and the Pussycats

If you’re reading Archie Comics’s Josie and the Pussycats, you may have noticed that this week’s third issue featured a “bootleg Diplo” — a DJ who looked like him, and whose name was “Quiplo.”

Certainly, Diplo noticed — and has adjusted his Twitter profile accordingly, to the surprise of the comic’s creative team.

Diplo is a DJ, record producer, rapper, singer, songwriter and record executive. He is the co-creator and lead member of the electronic dancehall music project, Major Lazer. He and DJ Skrillex, form the electronic duo Jack Ü.

He also founded and manages record company Mad Decent, and its associated non-profit organization Heaps Decent. In addition to his “day job” and work with charity, he has worked in education and contributed music to commercials and video games.

It’s probably not the most flattering thing, then, when his doppelganger shows up in Josie and the Pussycats, using Alexandra’s vendetta against Josie to mask his even-more-insidious plot, smuggling exotic animals.

Launched in October, Josie and the Pussycats has been one of Archie’s best New Riverdale launches — and a good argument against lateness criticisms, given that some of their recent launches quickly went the way of their chronically-late horror line.

The series, written by Marguerite Bennett and Cameron DeOrdio and featuring art by Audrey Mok, takes the band out of Riverdale to go on tour, play music, and battle bad guys with comic book science.

(No, seriously, that’s a thing in this book. It’s awesome.)
