Doctor Who Series 8 was the highest rated season of Doctor Who since the series made the jump to BBC America. BBC America began airing Doctor Who with Series 5, Stephen Moffat’s first as showrunner, in 2010.

Doctor Who Series 8 delivered BBC America and average overall audience of 2.035 million viewers in Live+3. The series was Peter Capaldi’s first, as the Twelfth Doctor, and co-starred Jenna Coleman as companion Clara Oswald.

This year’s Doctor Who Christmas Special, “Last Christmas,” brought in 2.312 million viewers, making it the highest rated non-sports show in its timeslot.

Capaldi and Coleman will return for Doctor Who Series 9 in 2015.
