Rumor has it, Eva Mendes (Ghost Rider, Hitch) will reprise her role as U.S. Customs federal agent Monica Fuentes for Fast 8 and that appearance could lead to Mendes getting her own Fast & Furious spinoff movie.

A source for We Got This Covered has informed the site, “Mendes is being brought back because both Vin Diesel and director F. Gary Gray want to test how she does with audiences as they’re thinking of giving her character, Monica Fuentes, a spinoff film.”

If you remember back in November, Universal Pictures Chairman Donna Langley and Vin Diesel confirmed plans to expand the franchise with spinoff films. “We’ve written out story lines for various characters,” Diesel told Variety. “We’ve been playing with it for a long time. It’s a very rich property and we’re committed to treating with a lot of class.”

Mendes made her franchise debut in 2003’s 2 Fast 2 Furious and had an uncredited cameo in 2011’s Fast Five. She appeared in the after-credits scene, handing Luke Hobbs (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) a case file on a Berlin robbery that included a photograph revealing Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) was still alive.

Fast 8 is being directed by F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton) and will land in theaters April 14, 2017.
