Family Guy: The Simpsons Guy Crossover Special Recap With Spoilers

Well, the first time it was technically part of an experiment designed to clone Homer, but that’s another story today, we got a new one…!

Note: If you want to know what happened, this is for you. If you want the jokes, watch the episode. Many of them don’t really work if transcribed anyway and need the actors to sell them.

The episode opens with the family watching “The All in the Family/Modern Family crossover episode.” Chris is excited to see it and makes a series of jokes about the motivations behind such a crossover episode being purely creative, and Stewie cuts him off. Peter enters with a newspaper, upset with an unfunny comic strip and insisting that since he could do better, he’s going to march down to the newspaper and demand a strip. While Brian pontificates on how hard it is to actually make a good strip, Peter leaves and comes back holding a newspaper in which he’s been published already.

At the Drunken Clam later, he gets a free drink because the bartender likes his strip. The next day, though, Lois doesn’t like a misogynistic strip he drew. Brian comes into say the comic has outraged bloggers online, and Peter will have to apologize. He goes on a thinly-veiled version of The View the next day, where he’s made a second, equally-offensive strip that has upset the audience as well. He continues to make misogynistic remarks, leading to a protest on his lawn.

“Simpsons did it! Simpsons did it!”

The family decides to leave town until it all blows over since they don’t feel safe.

On the road, everyone including Peter had been sleeping when they wake up; he says they’ve been driving overnight and they don’t know where they are. Their car is stolen, and when Lois says that they’re stuck there and don’t even know where they are, Peter sees a sign for Springfield. They head into the city to report the car theft, but Chris wants to stop at the Kwik-E-Mart to get some food. Apu recommends donuts, and when they say they can’t pay, Homer comes in and orders them a dozen, taking half for himself and then saying he thinks they’re going to get along “just okay.”

He brings Peter to the police station to report the car theft, and Wiggum takes the report, but then admits he’ll probably ignore it.

At the Simpsons’ house, Marge welcomes the Griffins to stay with them until they find the car. Bart is initially thought to be “away at camp” and not coming, but he gets home, having been kicked out of camp. He takes Stewie and Brian into his room and shows them his slingshot. He then teaches Stewie how to make a prank phone call. Stewie follows up with it, but does it terribly.

Lisa brings Meg into her room, where Meg is impressed by her trophy case. They agree to find out what Meg is good at. Lisa is nice to Meg, who is unaccustomed to it given the abuse her family subjects her to.

That evening at dinner, Brian is upset that he wasn’t invited to the dinner table, and goes into the kitchen and mocks Santa’s Little Helper while he eats.

Peter and Homer decide to head out and look for the stolen car on their own since the police in Springfield are a joke. They have one of Family Guy’s trademark cutaways, featuring cameos by Bob from Bob’s Burgers and Cleveland.

Next, Brian and Chris are walking Santa’s Little Helper when, in a moment of inspiration, Brian thinks that he can give the other dog some agency if he just lets him off the leash to make his own decisions. Santa’s Little Helper decides to run away.

They chase it through town, past Patty and Selma, and into the hospital, where Dr. Nick tries to recruit Santa’s Little Helper to help him with surgery. The dog makes its way into Krusty Burger, where Krusty chases it back into a cage of “burger meat” dogs, all of which get free and run off after Santa’s Little Helper bangs into the cage.

Bart is at the skate park showing Stewie how to skate; he loves it and is looking up to Bart until Nelson comes and bullies him, when Stewie decides to get even. He sets up a dummy marked “nerd with free lunch money” and while Nelson is punching it, shoots him in the neck with a dart, knocking him out.

Peter and Homer decide to set up a car wash, free for stolen cars, in order to try and find his car. Plenty of stolen cars show up, but none are Peter’s.

Back at home, Lisa is still trying to find something Meg might be good at and tells Meg to give the saxophone a shot. Meg is immediately great at it, which makes Lisa uneasy, and she tells Meg not to waste her energy on trying to learn better.

In a dark room, Stewie has bound and gaggged Nelson and has a number of torture devices set up in the room. He force-feeds Nelson his shorts.

Marge and Lois come in, talking about a movie they had gone to see, and ask Chris and Brian where Santa’s Little Helper is. They invent an elaborate story to convince everyone the dog is still home and accounted for. When Lois tells Peter he should be looking for the car, he and Homer get a giant magnet that’s supposed ot be a surefire way to find the car. They can’t find an outlet to plug the electromagnet into, but as Peter is trying to get it out of the street, he’s struck by his own car, driven by Hans Moleman, who runs off.

Later at Moe’s, Peter shares Pawtucket Patriot Ale with Homer, who isn’t impressed; he says it’s just a Duff rip-off, which Peter objects to (and, yes, they get into the Family Guy as a knockoff of The Simpsons metaphor). During their argument, Moe pulls the label off the beer to reveal a Duff label underneath.

The Blue-Haired Lawyer enters, telling Peter that he’s going to be sued for intellectual property theft. The next day, Peter goes to the courthouse, where the audience is composed of Simpsons characters and their Family Guy analogues.

The judge is Fred Flintstone because of course it is, and he finds in favor of Duff.

As the Griffins are leaving, Santa’s Little Helper comes back, Lisa gives Meg the saxophone and then gives her a hug — but Peter takes it and puts it in the trash after saying there’s no room in the car for Meg to have luggage. Before he leaves, Stewie reveals that he’s taken all of Bart’s “enemies,” including Sideshow Bob, Principal Skinner, Jimbo and Nelson, hostage and tied them up in the garage. Bart tells him that he freaks him out and they can’t keep in touch.

Homer goes outside to apologize to Peter for getting the brewery shut down, but Peter is a jerk to him and the result is a protracted fistfight with Homer that features, among other things, cameo appearances by Kang, Kodos and Roger from American Dad!.

Eventually, Homer is apparently killed by a falling UFO and Peter walks off into the distance — but Homer wakes up and gets out from under there, where Peter is still waiting for him, saying that he’s still there becuase Homer is parked behind him in the driveway.

Back in Quahog, the Griffins return home, where it’s revealed Stewie is in denial about being rejected by Bart and using a chalkboard gag to cope, and the brewery is still fine becuase they don’t think anyone from Springfield wille ver come to Quahog to enforce the ruling.
