Fans Petition For Deadpool Movie PG-13 Version

After years of fans and filmmakers alike insisting that watering down Deadpool for a PG-13 rating would result in a movie that wasn’t worth watching, an R-rated version of the Merc With a Mouth is coming to the big screen next month.

So, of course, there’s a petition to bring an alternate, PG-13 cut to theaters as well.

The petition was launched by YouTube star Grace Randolph, creator/host of Beyond The Trailer and Think About The Ink. Randolph is no stranger to comics, having herself written (among others) Justice League Unlimited and Supurbia as well as starring on Marvel’s The Watcher.

Randolph details her concerns, in part, in a video embedded below that talks about an 8-year-old viewer of her shows who is dead-set on seeing Deadpool:

“If there was a PG-13 version he could, and his mom Kristina could be a superhero rather than a super-villain,” reads the petition in part.

The petition has reached nearly 2,500 signatures and garnered a lot of attention in the specialty press, although there’s been a vocal opposition as well; the initial video embedded above has more than 2,000 downvotes on YouTube and the comment thread looks like…

…well, like a YouTube comment thread. Nevermind.

Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.
