Normally, when Netflix announces the titles coming to and leaving the site, it’s a happy day for TV fans. Today’s a little bit different, as one of the most beloved TV shows of all time is leaving the streaming service.

In today’s press release, Netflix announced that Firefly will be leaving the site next month. On April 1, each and every episode of the sci-fi western will be taken down.

If you’re a big fan of Joss Whedon‘s groundbreaking series, get your binge on now. In just over one week’s time, it’ll be much harder to watch your favorite episodes.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, the ‘leaving’ list was even more damaging to fans of sci-fi shows. In addition to Firefly, it was announced that Buffy The Vampire Slayer, X-Files, and Angel would all be leaving on April 1 as well.

Now, more than ever, fans are beginning to hope for that Firefly reboot series. While many have said it will probably never happen, Fox has offered the slightest bit of hope. The network has stated that a Firefly reboot wasn’t off the table, but it could only move forward if Joss Whedon was attached.

Whedon hasn’t commented on the possibility, but it doesn’t seem very likely. On the upside though, he’s done with all of his Avengers work – why note come back to TV?!

If you’re still looking for a way to watch through Firefly – for the first or fourteenth time – all hope isn’t lost. The entire series is available to stream on Hulu. Maybe it’s time to pull the trigger, and add that second subscription.
