Hyperion is on a quest to find himself, but in a way he is not the only one. The creative team of Chuck Wendig and Nik Virella are on a mission to get to the bottom of who Hyperion is as well, for their sakes, and for ours.

Hyperion originally comes from the Squadron Supreme, but not everyone is as familiar with them as they are the Avengers or the X-Men. Hyperion is attempting to figure humanity out by walking among us, and helping where he can along the way. In a conversation with Marvel.com, Chuck Wendig goes into a bit of detail as to who he is trying to be.
Hyperion is a man who lost his universe. He doesn’t belong anywhere. And as a result, he lost himself and hasn’t yet found who he really is. He’s been taught these precepts by his father, and he believes he is meant to be a teacher, a saviorโa father in his own rightโand so he adopts America and its people as his children. But he doesn’t understand them, and this is about Hyperion going out into the country to find out who these people are. And, by proxy, who he really is, too.
Nik Virella ways in as well
The most exciting thing about this project is the fact that Hyperion gets to shine in his own series. It’s a new introduction, where he will be able to interact with all kinds of characters and really come into his own. People might not know Hyperion as well as they know the bigger names, so I’m looking forward to giving him that spotlight.
As for the feel of the book, of which you can preview the first three pages in the gallery, it almost seems to have a road trip in middle America vibe, as the first arc deals with Hyperion picking up a hitchhiker named Doll, whose past brings him into contact with a darker element.
His favorite scene so far though?
Already I’ve gotten to write a scene where Hyperion uses a tractor trailer as a weaponโlike, a bludgeoning deviceโso I feel like my life has already improved 1000%.
You can read Hyperion #1 when it hits comic book shops on March 23rd.
