Five Questions We Want Answered in Supergirl – Worlds Finest

DC’s television universe is about to get a whole lot bigger as the Flash arrives in National City this week on Supergirl.Barry Allen is appearing at a critical time in Supergirl’s life, as Alex and J’onn are currently on the run from the US government and public confidence in Supergirl is still at an all time low. The Flash also brings with him plenty of questions about the DC Multiverse and just how deep Supergirl writers are willing to delve into the more complicated aspects of comic book lore.So here’s five big questions we want answered on this week’s episode of Supergirl:

What is the DC Television Multiverse Like?

Viewers of The Flash are already familiar with the concept of DC’s multiverse, as that show has explored two different worlds this season. However, while The Flash‘s Earth-1 and Earth-2 are “similar but different” worlds, Supergirl‘s universe is wildly different than anything shown on one of the CW’s “Arrowverse” shows thus far. So if Supergirl and the “Arrowverse” are both part of a DC Television Multiverse, how deep does this Multiverse go?  Is Gotham or Lucifer part of the DC Television Multiverse? Are past DC shows like Smallville, Birds of Prey or even the original CBS Flash series part of this Multiverse too?  

Furthermore, it will be interesting to see if Supergirl drops any hints about some of DC’s deeper multiversal lore.  Does a “Bleed” exist in the space between universes?  Are there Monitors?  Could there be an Anti-Monitor lurking somewhere in the Multiverse that would require an even grander crossover to stop?  

Will Sparks Fly Between Barry and Kara?

One of the weakest aspects of Supergirl is Kara’s different love interests, all of whom have fallen flat this season.  While a great friend, Winn comes off as a creep and a jerk whenever he pines for Kara.  Jimmy’s not much better, as he kept stringing Kara along for almost all of his relationship with Lucy.  Even Cat’s son Adam (played by Melissa Benoist’s real life husband Blake Jenner) had all the romantic chemistry of a rotting log. 

Luckily, Kara’s love life could get a real jolt of electricity (get it?) with the arrival of Barry Allen.  Both Barry and Kara are major dorks, unfailingly kind and have a unique understanding of trying to balance a normal life with superheroics.  Plus, Grant Gustin, who plays Barry, can create instant on-screen chemistry with just about anyone.  So will we see some friendly flirting (or smooching) between the Worlds Finest?  This 

How Did Siobhan Get Her Silver Banshee Powers?

Last episode, Siobhan surprised both herself and Winn when she cushioned an otherwise deadly fall off a rooftop with a powerful sonic scream.  So how did Siobhan get her Silver Banshee powers?  The comic version of Silver Banshee has two different origins.  The original Silver Banshee got her powers in an Irish occult ritual gone horrifically wrong, while the New 52 version of Siobhan is actually possessed by the Silver Banshee and struggles to contain her powers.  So will Supergirl use one of the two comic origins, or will Siobhan have a new origin just for the television show?  Either way, we’re guessing that this Silver Banshee will pose a lot of problems for both Supergirl and the Flash. 

How is Jeremiah Danvers Alive?

The other big reveal in last week’s episode was that Alex’s father (and Kara’s adopted father) Jeremiah Danvers was still alive and in the custody of Project Cadmus.  That revelation sent Alex and J’onn on an immediate collision course with the secretive government project, one that we hope gets followed up on this week.  So just how did Project Cadmus resurrect Danvers from his supposedly fatal knife wound?  Did they use alien technology?  Did they turn him into a cyborg?  Or is this Jeremiah simply a clone of the original? More importantly, did Jeremiah tell the US government anything about Superman or Supergirl and will he even recognize Alex and J’onn?  

Who’s Faster: The Flash or Supergirl?

If you’re going to have a crossover between two heroes with superhuman speed, there better be a world-spanning race involved. The commercials have teased that the Flash and Supergirl will face off similar to Superman’s many races with the Flash in the comics. So who’s faster: the Flash or Supergirl?  Supergirl’s speed hasn’t been tested yet on the show yet, so a race between the two could give us some hints as to just how powerful Supergirl is. If she’s fast enough to beat the Flash, could she also be fast enough to somehow reverse time by changing the Earth’s rotation?  That seems unlikely, but a Kryptonian’s abilities are usually as strong or as weak as a writer needs them to be.  We’ll see how strong Supergirl is this week as she takes on the Flash in the greatest race in history.
