Earlier this year, Comicbook.com reported that we had heard Marvel Studios was going to be teaming up with Sony and 20th Century Fox to create a giant Marvel Cinematic Universe. As we pointed out at the time, each studio would still be in charge of their respective properties, but that it would soon start to become obvious that all the movie properties were operating in the same universe.Having all the Marvel Cinematic properties operating in the same universe makes sense for a lot of reasons, chief among them is merchandising opportunities involving toys and video games. Disney/Marvel stands to benefit if kids can have their Amazing Spider-Man movie action figures play nicely with their Iron Man movie action figures. Now, the first real evidence of the giant Marvel Cinematic Universe has surfaced. In a trailer for the Iron Man 3 video game from Gameloft, a billboard for Oscorp Industries is shown on one of the buildings right across from an A.I.M. billboard. Not just any Oscorp Industries billboard mind you, but one containing the exact same Oscorp Industries logo that appears in the Amazing Spider-Man movies. Now, Gameloft also produced an Amazing Spider-Man movie video game, so it’s always possible that a programmer just made an error in including the graphic. It’s possible, but not very likely.Organizations like A.I.M., S.H.I.E.L.D., and Oscorp Industries play a role in the lives of numerous Marvel characters. Wouldn’t it get confusing for kids if there was one logo used in Marvel Studios films and another logo used in Sony films? S.H.I.E.L.D. in particular is a really important property for Marvel with the TV series, so they would definitely want the same S.H.I.E.L.D. branding across all the movies in case S.H.I.E.L.D. happens to be playing a role in the Amazing Spider-Man 2.
