If a major concept art leak for God of War IV is true, then Kratos is ready to finally leave the Greek pantheon behind, and take on a new set of gods. The art, taken from the website of a concept artist who worked at Santa Monica Studio, clearly shows major elements of Norse mythology.

In the art, you can see the World Tree Yggdrasil, and several of the Nine Realms (or Nine Worlds), including Alfheim and Vanaheimr. Those are, of course, places visited frequently and popularized in the Thor comic books and films, which also draw directly from Norse Mythology. The artist directly named Kratos, God of War, and the Norse elements in his post.

Yes, this means that you could play as Kratos, going up against the God of Thunder himself. While it won’t look like the “Thor” from Marvel, it still has the potential of an amazing moment. Other foes like Odin, Hel, Loki, Baldr, Freyja, plus a huge host of monsters and creatures form the famous wolf Fenris to the giant Jรถtunn, giants made of frost and fire, trolls, Valkyries, and the King of Serpents, make for a compelling list of enemies for Kratos to eviscerate in his signature God of War fashion.

Sony has not yet provided a comment to Polygon, who spotted the leak, but with a new God of War game confirmed as in-development, and Norse mythology easily recognizable to a wide fanbase, this isn’t a huge leap to take.
