ComicBook.com had an opportunity to speak with Michael Rooker, who plays Yondu in the film, and asked, now that their debut film is finished, where he’d like to see the Guardians go from here.

“Are you kidding?” Rooker says. “Well, they don’t’ talk to me about this stuff, so I don’t really have real answers for you there, but I wish, what I would hope, I would love if the audiences and the fans really took to this piece, and just wanted to see more, and more of it. Because I’m not done playing Yondu. I’d love the opportunity to do more of Yondu.”

It seems that Rooker has really taken to Yondu. One of the original Guardians in the comics, Yondu is the leader of the Ravagers in the film, and a father figure to Star-Lord. Rooker seems to have every intention of returning to the character, if given the chance, and he credits most of that to director James Gunn.

“I came out very well in this whole process,” Rooker says. “There was almost nothing completely cut out of my role. So, my role is there in its entirety, in its glory, so there’s just no moments that were gone. But, I think Yondu turned out quite well. In a movie with that many characters, and that big a scopeโ€ฆJames Gunn is a genius. The guy edited this together, he was right there in the room, writing, directing, editing, he was involved in all aspects of this film. To put it together so completely, and so amazing, it was just an amazing piece. My hats off. I’m not just saying this because he’s a pal of mine, the dude is a genius. I was very pleased with the results.”

Guardians of the Galaxy opens in theaters August 1.
