Once you get a taste of witch blood, you just got to have some more. Well, Paramount is hoping so as they continue to push ahead with a sequel to Tommy Wirkola’s Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013).
Wirkola was attached to direct the sequel but had a change of heart. He left the project last September, but did pen the sequel’s script. Though, Paramount is “already searching for a new scribe to rewrite Wirkola’s script.”
The Tracking Board adds, “A source close to the project has informed me that Parmount’s is looking to pump a little more excitement into the franchise.”
The 2013 fantasy-adventure film starred Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton as the brother-sister witch hunting team. They are both expected to reprise their roles. The film earned $226M at the worldwide box office, but only $55M of that came from North America.
For Aveillan, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 2 would be his feature film debut. He has made a name for himself in the advertising community, directing commercials for Louis Vuitton, Audi, Nike, Lexus, Nintendo, Coca Cola, Perrier, Lexus, Nissan, Samsung, and Jaguar. He has one short film under his belt, 2009’s The Farmer Project.
