One of the most powerful motivations is to protect one’s family, and that will be central to Image and Top Cow’s new one-shot, Dante.

At the helm of this 48-page prestige format project is Top Cow COO and writer Matt Hawkins (Symmetry, Think Tank) co-writer Jason Ning, and artist Darick Robertson (Happy!, Transmetropolitan).
“When Cryptozoic and Strange Turn asked if I’d be interested in working on a book with Darick Robertson, I had to pinch myself at first to see if I was dreaming it,” said Hawkins. “Darick is one of those artists that writers dream of collaborating with, and working with him was one of my most fulfilling experiences in comics thus far!”
The project tells the story of Dante, a man with a wife and daughter that seeks to balance his family life with his career, which happens to be of assassin. When you work for a crime syndicate, trust is never easy to come by, and Dante learns that the hard way. When he takes the life of a young boy, it changes him, literally and figuratively, as he finds himself cursed and covered in supernatural tattoos. His ultimate goal is to find his family and figure out what these new markings mean.
Robertson is quite excited for the project and feels it fits his artistic stylings perfectly.
“Working with Matt, Jason, and the whole Cryptozoic team was an excellent experience,” said Robertson. “The script is moody and gritty, which fit nicely into my artistic wheelhouse. The colors are by the ever incredible Diego Rodriguez, and I believe this is some of our best work to date.”
