“It’s the largest release in the history of our company,” said Greg Foster, CEO of Imax Entertainment and executive VP of Imax Corp., on an analyst call earlier today.
Interstellar will have 770 IMAX engagements, and will open in IMAX theaters on November 5, two days ahead of the film’s domestic wide release.
The New York City premiere of Interstellar will also be screened in IMAX, as will a promotional launch at the British Film Institute.
“We’re doing everything that we can possibly can. The movie represents most everything that Imax tries to uphold in terms of our brand and the responsibility of the filmmaker and the quality of the film itself,” Foster said.
Nolan has long been a fan of the IMAX format, and shot certain scenes in The Dark Knight trilogy using their proprietary cameras. The cameras were used for about an hour of the footage in Interstellar.
