The new Tomb Raider will be more of an origin story than the earlier Angelina Jolie-led takes on the popular video game. It’ll focus on a younger version of Laura Croft, similar to the one featured in the 2013 game, who is determined to find out if her father is dead or alive.
Oscar-winner Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, The Danish Girl) will star as Lara Croft and Walton Goggins (The Hateful Eight, Justified) as the film’s main villain.
Tomb Raider has been written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet, who is also slated to write upcoming films like ROM, Sherlock Holmes 3, and Gotham City Sirens. The movie is being directed by Norwegian filmmaker Roar Uthag (The Wave).
Tomb Raider reboot begins filming next month and is set to hit theaters March 16, 2018.
