and Rising Stars writer J. Michael Straczynski will take on Terminator for Dark Horse Comics, the publisher announced a day before their panel at San Diego Comic Con International. According to CBR, the 12 issue series will be called Terminator: The Final Battle, and Pete Woods will do the artwork on the series.Terminator, which has not been published regularly since Zack Whedon was doing it, is set to be rebooted on the big screen in 2015, kicking off a new trilogy of films. While the property’s comics history is somewhat spotty, there have been real bright spots over the years, including some of Alex Ross’s first published comics art.Straczynski has primarily worked for Marvel and DC in recent years but seems to have moved away from the Big Two following Before Watchmen. In addition to Terminator, a number of new, creator-owned books were announced through his Joe’s Comics imprint at Image earlier this month at the Image Expo. His next creator-owned book, Sidekick, features the art of comics industry stalwart Tom Mandrake and traces the path of a young hero named Flyboy who is trying to adjust and carve out an identity for himself following the death of his mentor, The Red Cowl. Unfortunately, no one takes Flyboy seriously and the ridicule takes its toll on him.Straczynski, who created the TV series Babylon 5 and has also written for The Real Ghostbusters and The Twilight Zone, is best known in comics for his lengthy, fan-favorite run on The Amazing Spider-Man, which ended with the controversial One More Day storyline. That story rolled back years of Spider-Man’s history and magically removed his marriage from continuity and the characters’ memories. Straczynski reportedly asked that his name be taken off of the last issue after significant editorial influence and rewrites by Joe Quesada, whose idea One More Day had been.Look forward to an interview with Straczynski here at ComicBook.com later this week.
