Five days from now, when director Jeff Wadlow begins principal photography on Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall, he’ll have Jim Carrey aboard as The Colonel, a vigilante known in the comics as Colonel Stars.”6 days till we start shooting,” tweeted Wadlow, “and we officially have our Colonel. Alrighty f’n then!”For those under 25, “Alrighty then” is a reference to Carrey’s first major big-screen hit, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, in which that was his catch-phrase. It briefly and tragically became a thing that people said in real life, too, but it’s better to try and forget that sad period in our nation’s history. One of those people under 25 is Christophe Mintz-Plasse, who plays Red Mist in the film. Whether serious or not, he egged the conversation on by asking “Who do we got?!”, to which co-creator Mark Millar responded, “Clue- he lives with 200 raccoons and parrots, owns the mask of Loki and named by Spielberg as a genius.”That certainly narrows it down. This wouldn’t be Jim Carrey’s first role in a comic book adaptaiton, of course; he starred in the blockbuster 1994 adaptation of Dark Horse Comics’s The Mask, part of a group of comic book movies including things like Men in Black that people didn’t realize at the time were comcis adaptations.Co-created by Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr., Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall is based in part on the Kick-Ass 2 comic book series the pair did together in 2008, and incorporates elements of their Hit-Girl comic. The film will bring back almost the entire cast from the original film, and add Carrey, John Leguizamo and a handful of other new faces. The film is expected to hit U.S. theaters in May 2013.
