Early in the production process, rumors that the Turtles would be aliens rather than mutants leaked out, infuriating the hardcore fans. Sources close to the production first confirmed, and later denied, that the film would be titled Ninja Turtles, which fed into the rumors that the word “mutant” had been removed since they were no longer mutants.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is due in theaters on August 8.
