The limited edition New 3DS XLs are already scarce. Gamestop and Amazon report having a few left, but their price is already beginning to skyrocket due to scarcity, going up from the $200 MSRP to around $550.
The limited edition consoles are meant to coincide with the 3DS port of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, the closest thing to a “cult classic” that the venerable Legend of Zelda video game series has. The game sees the heroic protagonist Link trying to stop the world of Termina from being destroyed by its falling moon in three days’ time, represented by a unique time management gameplay mechanic.
Nintendo’s New 3DS XL officially goes on sale today.
