According to the spoiler room (via EW), the new mission is more about fulfilling a needed role in the universe rather than taking on any one villain specifically. Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim confirmed it leads directly out of the events of the season one finale.

“In many ways, the season finale of season 1 set up the new mission statement for season 2,” EP Marc Guggenheim says. “Like Rip says at the end of the season finale, there basically are no more Time Masters. We basically have to be the Time Masters.”

The team will have some new faces to help them out next season, which is good since both Hawkman and Hawkwoman exited the team in the season finale, and Captain Cold is no longer around to help out either.

They will have the services of Maisie Richardson-Sellers, who is joining the show as Vixen, as well as Nick Zano, who fills the role of Justice Society of America member Citizen Steel. With the reveal of Rex Tyler’s Hourman last season, the team should have enough firepower to handle whatever comes their way.
