Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One continues to cast up, with Mark Rylance in final talks to add to a stacked cast. Ben Mendelsohn, Simon Pegg, Tye Sheridan, and Olivia Cooke are already signed on for the novel-based film, set for a March 30, 2018 release.

Rylance, if he signs, will play James Donovan Halliday, the creator of “Oasis,” a virtual universe (think The Matrix) that people have voluntarily decided they prefer living in. Ryalance comes off a best supporting actor Oscar for Bridge of Spies, also directed by Spielberg – though that would be a very different film from this science fiction epic.
Warner Bros. had originally planned to release Ready Player One just before Christmas 2017 – but the date wound up being occupied by Star Wars: Episode VIII, forcing WB to push the date to March.
