Last night during Super Bowl 50, Coke aired a commercial that featured Marvel’s Hulk and Ant-Man, vying to get Hulk’s last can of Coke. On the off chance you missed it, you can watch it here.
Monday morning, the designers of the ad, Luma Pictures, put out a quick featurette explaining the process from getting the chance to work on these characters, to the ins and outs of the special effects.

“When we first got the project in, I went up to the team and discussed the scope of work which was already immense to begin with”, said Senior VFX Supervisor Vincent Cirelli. “I said look, we already know how these characters act and know what they’re supposed to be…but do you guys want to make it better?”
The project was on a tight 8-week deadline, which Cirelli’s team was not entirely thrilled about, but still jumped at the chance to participate in something like this.
“We only had a few days to put the pre-vis together,” said Justin Johnson, the digital effects supervisor, “but we had enough time to show it to the agencies and show it to the directors and make the necessary changes that we would need to make to fulfill their vision properly.”
You can watch the featurette below to get a scope of all that went on.
You can see the amount of love that the creative team put into this. It’s unlikely we’ll get a Banner and Lang moment in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War, so this will have to suffice for now.
